We were supposed to be going up to NH this coming weekend for tax-free shopping / Easter / Bardic / Haunted House kick-off meeeting / Haunted House site hunting, but due to changes in plans went up this past weekeend instead.  Chris and Elijah came with us and we met up with both Monique's mom and my family for an early Easter.  We also took the opportunity with Randy and Tracy to talk about various haunted house issues.  Only 220 days to go; the clock is ticking.

On an unrelated topic, freeing up next weekend from the NH trip means that we're free to make a trip down to VA next weekend.  Since I have Friday off (there's a reason it's called GOOD Friday) we're going to head to VA Thursday night after work and we'll be down there for a couple of days to spend Easter weekend with Monique's family.

I've been sick since Tuesday night and while it's changed shape, it's carried on right through today. Today I'm down to a persistent hacking cough, though I think I brought up my first pieces of lung today, so I have high hopes that's the beginning of the end.

Chris and I spent many hours this weekend shovelling. He's been sick as well so we go out in short shifts to shovel and then come in and collapse weakly for a while before trying again. We finally got one car out of the snow yesterday and with the plow were able actually get it out to the street so I could go pick up Monique at the airport, though she did have to sit there and wait a few hours.

Sadly between sickness and snow I missed the 7V wrap party. :-(

Today we have to try and dig out the other car and clear the front walk to the house before this crap freezes. Should be fun... not.

Anyway, thanks to everyone who responded to Friday's post about the haunted house. We're still a long way from the numbers needed to say it will work, so please check it out and if you feel you can help in any capacity let us know. Randy did a far more eloquent post on his 2020 Vision Quest blog at http://2020visionquest.org/Blog/. He even included pictures of past events.

I was going to run a haunted house this year in the warehouse where I work.  I had grand schemes for a swamp, forest, cemetery and crypt.  I had a crew of people lined up to help me last night and tonight for setup.  However, work was cancelled yesterday due to the hurricane so we missed the first night of setup.  Several of my setup crew for tonight are not here.  There is just no way I'm going to ask a skeleton crew to do essentially four times the work.  We'd be here until 5:00 in the morning and I know from experience how painful that is.

So alas, there will be no haunted house here tomorrow.  :'-(

Last year my haunted house got scrapped part way through because of a blizzard.  This year is being called on account of a mega-hurricane.  I think I should cancel next year now because I don't want to see how Mother Nature escalates things to stop me next.

That's kind of a weird icon for March, isn't it?

Normally yes.  However, since I have spent so much time in the past two days at the Transworld convention in St. Louis MO looking at Halloween stuff, no.  Monique and I are spending the weekend out here learning all sorts of stuff related to haunted houses.  Not only have we spent a lot of time looking at stuff being sold by vendors, but we've also taken seminars in marketing, building sets quickly, training actors and technical topics like sound and lighting.   It's been entertaining and educational and we're both in agreement that it was well worth the trip.

Good stuff and I can't wait to put it to good use.

More to come later, but here's a quick slideshow to give everyone a feel for the YMCA haunted house I ran this weekend with the help of a lot of amazing, talented, dedicated help.  I'll list everyone later and you can bet huge thanks will be going out because I'm extremely grateful.

In the meantime, for your viewing pleasure...

The actual full story will be coming later, but it's hinted at in the captions of the pictures.

I know I promised I'd keep haunted house updates behind the filter, but I want creative feedback.

There's this very talented artist at work who does some amazing video work.  Today he asked me how the haunted house was going and "casually" mentioned that if I only had access to a projector he'd love to create something for me to use in it.  Then it occurred to me that the final room in the haunted house where a demon is being summoned has a large screen, about 50 inches and that the Y told me I could use it if I wish.

Then I got to thinking how cool it would be if the final demon, the big one with the 7 foot wingspan came out from behind that screen as the finale to whatever was playing *ON* the screen.

So evil, creative geniuses, given no more than 30 seconds, what would you put on there?  Be as descriptive as you wish and assume the sky's the limit.

So this whole haunted house project is really moving along and I'm going to stick it behind a filter after this.

You've all been very patient, a whole week and no update on last Friday's haunted house.  I was hoping to have a video of it, but as things worked out, almost all the video footage was no good.  :-(   So what I have for you is a slideshow and a detailed explanation of how things went.

The haunted house last week in my department was a smashing success.  I was skeptical that we could outdo the previous year, but we totally blew it away.  The reviews were unanimously outstanding.   We had guests who were blown away. We even scared the skeptics who claim they can't be scared. People are still talking about it this week and I suspect will do so for a long time to come.

The only problem I have now is how to outdo it again next year, but there are already plans in the works.  No, really.

Me and my team started setting up our IT haunted house at 5:00 yesterday afternoon.  We finished at 3:30 this morning.  I came home and slept for 35 minutes and now back to the office.  I am soooo tired but it turned out soooo incredibly awesome.  I can't wait to see how it goes today.  Hopefully a really good video will be forthcoming.
