Semi-regular update on stuff
Just catching up since I haven't done so in a couple of weeks.
New Years was a whirlwind of sorts. Monique, Chris, Elijah and I went down to Fairfax VA the Friday night before New Year to celebrate Christmas with Monique's family. We got down there at about 1:30 in the morning. Saturday was spent with her family playing games and opening presents. The one bonus was having my dear friend Steve with us for most of the day. He even got us a tour of one of the fire stations as an activity to get the kids out and about.
We headed back home Sunday around noontime because both Monique and I had to work on New Years Eve day, so sadly, again, I had no time to visit with friends. Maybe next time.
The past couple of months have not been kind to my waist. I've gained about 25 pounds. I'm feeling it in my bad ankle. The family has committed to better foods and portion control. Since we're all working on it together, it may succeed. I need to find some way of exercising consistantly. There's a place opening in February (if they stick to plan) about 5 minutes down the road. I'm thinking that's a good distance to go right down in the morning and then come back home, shower and get ready for work. The months I was working out in the gym near work were the best I ever felt. it would be nice to get back into that.
Work lately has been pretty much status quo; nothing new, good or bad. I guess I'm getting complacent again. The company is restructuring a lot of departments (not mine) and that will mean a lot of work for mine, seeing as we have to worry about electrical, network and phones. On that note, I had to go out and rent a storage unit today to get my Halloween stuff out of the warehouse because one of our departments is moving into the warehouse and thus the warehouse space is being consolidated and my Halloween stuff is not a priority to keep here (which is where it currently is).
Monique and I have begun discussion and planning for a rundraiser haunted house in New Hamshire this year in association with Randy and Tracy to benefit 2020. If all goes according to plan, we'll be doing setup the first two weekends of October and running the two Fridays and Saturdays before Halloween as well as the 30th and 31st. If you want to mark any of those dates now we'll be recruiting help for setup, operation and cleanup (the day or two following Halloween). I know these dates conflict with lots of LARPs the October Mirror, Mirror. :-( Ah well, the price I pay for my art and for charity.
Monique is doing well. The hole in her abdomen is still almost gone. This remnant of her last surgery is now 14 months old. She generally feels ok. Work is both very good and very bad. She's doing great in terms of getting stuff done, but she's back to putting in way too many hours. She's recently acquired a few recent reports, something that wasn't supposed to happen, but she's been doing such a great job, her boss has decided to "reward" her. She is, however, in her glory for any complaining she does about it, so that's good.
Speaking of Monique, she turns 50 in a couple of weeks. We're gearing up for a somewhat small family gathering because that's what she wants and made it clear that I was *not* to do to her what she did to me. I don't know why she'd complain because I had the most memorable 50th birthday imaginable. Anyway, we're going out with family to Foxwoods casino for a couple of days and staying together at a bed and breakfast out there. Then the following weekend we're going into NY City to see the John Stewart show.
Chris is doing well. He's in an intense algebra course right now between semesters in preparation for his next math class. He's got 13 days before he starts his next full course load. Between that and his time with Elijah and chores at home, he keeps pretty busy.
Elijah is a little bundle of cute. He's got his grandfather mostly wrapped around his finger. That's not to say that he doesn't have to eat his vegetables or that he can get away with bad behavior (which there really isn't much), but he's won my heart. I even read him an occasional story and play with him.
Last night was amusing. His dad had gone out for a couple of hours and Monique and I had him. He was sitting on the couch between us as we were watching "Once Upon A Time" and he was holding Monique's hand. The phone rang; it was his mom. Elijah had sneezed just as Monique was answering the phone and instead of getting up to blow his nose, he was sniffing it back in through the first minute of the conversation. I could hear him telling his mom, "I'm not crying"..."No, I'm not"..."I'm *not* crying mommy". At that point, having put the show on pause so Elijah wouldn't be distracted I got up to go into the kitchen. From there I could hear him, "I love you"..."I love daddy too"..."I love pepere most of all". How can you not love that... well, at least if you're the pepere, which I am? :-)
Well, that's about it for now. For all you long time LJers who've fallen off the bandwagon and many of you therefore off my radar, if you're still reading, feel free to post something and let me know you're still alive.
