10 days without a post...
So much for breaking the bad habit of postponing posting.
Last weekend was a lot of fun. I had the Seekers from Madrigal over to use my house for a team meeting. Monique did all the cooking for them in exchange for them donating a bunch of stuff to the local food pantry. There was much game playing and talking (mostly LARP related, what a shock), and Tropic Thunder viewing (because it's "THE best Tom Cruise movie EVAH!"). We had 6 people sleep over Friday night and 7 people on Saturday night with a couple of Saturday only folks. All in all it was a pretty good weekend getting to know some people a lot better OOG.
The week was work hell for me. There were times that managed to get my stress levels back up and I ended up working until 6:00 most nights. In fact, I'm here at work today (Saturday) because my week consisted of so many interruptions that way more work backed up than got completed and I'm already so far in the hole that I have to do something to get out. This ERP go live has been and continues to be hell. I should have just shut off my email today because I spent an hour answering an email that should never have crossed my desk to begin with, but if I don't spend that hour now, it will come back to bite me and cost me waaaaaaay more than that later.
Monique and I bought two tickets for Thursday night's pre-season game for her dad for his birthday. Unfortunately, he's been having issues with his shoulder for weeks that are resulting in surgery (more on that soon) and are keeping him from driving, so he couldn't go to the game. Monique and I used the tickets ourselves. We went into Providence and took the Patriots train from there right into the stadium parking lot. This is the way to go, no fuss, no mess, no waiting, no traffic woes. The game itself was pretty low key. It was hot. The starters weren't really in most of the game. The excitement was low and so was the score (7-6 with us on the low end of that score). :-( And we got into the hotel at 2:00 am. Friday was rough on way too little sleep. Was it worth it? I'm still up in the air on that call.
Monique was really down, almost in tears, when she got home last night. Her dad has that surgery coming I mentioned earlier. They put him through hours of stress testing before letting him have the surgery because they're worried about his heart. One thing led to another and before you know it, they found he has a 1" growth in his lungs and they're going to have to investigate this further. There will be tests this week. I refuse to panic yet,
What the hell is it lately with medical problems... major surgeries and post-surgery problems for her mom, her dad, her sister, my lead programmer, my network engineer's mom, heart attack for network engineer's best friend, death of my buddy from pancreatic cancer, oh yeah, my own TIA. Enough is enough already.
I took my car in for maintenance today. i love the fact that my car tells me when it wants something done and in terms I can understand. There are a series of regular maintenances that the manufacturer recommends and the car lets me know when to schedule them. I am faithful about it and the car is in great shape. I hope to keep it that way. Today it let me down. I took it in and it told me the wrong maintenance. It told me a "B" which is roughly a 45 minute job for about $50. What it really needed was an "F", which is a combined A, B, C, D and E with some other unusual fluid change, taking 3 hours and costing $450. Silly car. I had to reschedule for next weekend.
On an amusing end note, I paid for the oil change today and the cashier asked me if I had the key. I told him no and he went off to find it. He came back a minute later without the key and walked over to the door with me. He asked me the color of the van and I told him it was sage (which is sort of a dark green that looks charcoal). He said, do you see one that looks like your car? Glancing out over this field of Honda Odysseys at a Honda dealership, I replied, "They *all* look like my car". For some reason he didn't find it as amusing as I did. But hey, you ask a stupid question...
