Madrigal highlights

Wow!  This was the best Madrigal weekend I've had in a long time.  The NPCs, all the NPCs and there were a lot of them.  My fellow PCs were so much fun to interact with.  Thank you all for putting up with the unusual wierdness that was Zephyr this weekend, well, weirder than usual.

In no particular order of stuff:
- Severing the spirit of the duelist from SoulDrinker. The whole rite to empower the severing was a neat idea to get characters involved to share some things about themselves. And Aldebaron did an outstanding job dueling the demon long enough for us to complete it. I especially enjoyed all the Roux time it got me.

- Oh, Roux! The things I could tell you about her... now. Except I can't because I promised I wouldn't. I absolutely adore this character. <3

- Riddle me this demon. Our second spirit to sever from SoulDrink (the following night) required us to call forth the spirit of the bard and defeat her in a riddle competition. Now I'm sure that not a single person I talked to metagamed that and said in their mind, "I am NOT facing JJ in a riddle competition with death on the line" because my fellow players would just *NEVER* do something like that. Uh-huh. I couldn't find anyone willing to admit they were any good at riddles. Thank goodness Jozef gave me warning about what this was going to entail. I came up with about 10 riddles Saturday afternoon and parceled them out to people to use. Panic ensued when I found out we had to repeat the rite, when the hook came and said "Let's go. Do you have everyone?" Everyone? Who is everyone?

- Locke gets to live... and he's not my problem anymore... sort of. FireEye clarified the position of the church on the issue with Locke and his worship. I don't have to execute him... unless he attempts the even worse thing he's now put out there in regard to death matters. All I have to do for now is keep an eye on him. His matter of defrocking is now the hands of his church. I'm sorry Davrem. :-p

- Locke... out of the frying pan and into the fire *sigh* - Locke needs help saving Valentine. Zephyr helps and succeeds, I'm pretty sure, hard to tell until next event, but I'm pretty sure I convinced Tim's barbarian. And then Locke essentially insults him and gets himself killed and has his life indebted to the barbarian. *sigh*

- Anchoring the root maze - Halia asked Zephyr to go into the woods and help anchor the root maze. Zephyr of course agreed. For a while there it looked like it might be just the two of them, but there was no way Zephyr was going to disappoint her. Zephyr leaves disappointing one's lady to Solomon, but that's a story for Saturday night's dinner entertainment. ;-) So back to this story, fun times, easy fight, light banter, good company, I got to blow the cool horn and Halia's going away... whoa, whoa, whoa, what?!?! Yeah, so, not what Zephyr was expecting to overhear and it led to a marvelous discussion between them. hope_ish is going to be away from the game for about a year and thus our characters have come to an understanding about the reasons she's traveling and how they stand. It's ok; Zephyr's losing his sanity (that comes later) and the one person that has pulled him back together. No pressure there Halia.

- High Holy Day of Naveril - Woo! Feast of bounty shared with all those who would sit with us, including Jade Moth who shared religious philosophies from his world. Here's to the lord of bounty. May the celebration of his holy day help shield us from the famine that lies ahead. Oh, and Zephyr scored brownie point with his lady love by remembering that she loves berries and bringing a bountiful supply of them and making sure she got some. :-)

- Verrassa - We found it at last. The setup was lovely and it was really easy to imagine that we were in an underground village and not the cellar of a barn. You'd think that a people that were not whole, missing a quarter of themselves, might welcome in those trying to reunite them. You'd be wrong. I heroically (foolishly?) decided to test if the curse against Troubadours / Air Eurvein was still in effect these many years later. It's a bit unclear who the target is but since we had a Troubadour with us that was Water who was not inflicted I'm leaning toward Air Eurvein. Unfortunately all we have is a second had story about the exact nature of the curse. I can tell you that the curse causes an infliction of madness. Ask me how I can tell you this. Oh wait, if you were there this weekend you can tell me better than I can tell you, since Zephyr doesn't seem to remember his bouts of madness. ;-) This just led to loads of fun over the rest of the weekend.

- Pangaeus - Our visit for information Saturday turned into quite the exchange of information both ways. It also set the groundwork for the emotional crush that came Sunday where Zephyr essentially sentenced the sister of the man who looks like Jade Moth to death. I've spent two years trying to get Zephyr's brain wrapped around their culture and now that he has I wish he hadn't. Jade Moth: "I don't care about her, but if I did, I would wish that you spare her." I've never had one sentence cut me so hard and so fast. I cried through a lot of this because it was just so raw and emotional and while I knew I had to do what I was doing I knew I was also doing so much harm to so many. That culture sucks... hard.

- A second inflict - I was late to a battle and found myself separated from the town... and staring down the pointy end of an Eurvein hunter's blade. Inflict to Eurvein one, Inflict to Eurvein two, Inflict to Eurvein three... oh, and stabilize. No one found me in the bushes for the five minutes. I have to remember to chase down a clarification. Right now all I know from Rob post event is that I have this "icky feeling of chaos in me".

- Saturday night entertainment. Yay... a break in the pain! There was a new NPC (Nicole) playing a bard and encouraging people to perform for each other. She had one of the most gorgeous voices I've ever heard and she rolled easy with the silliness that can be Zephyr. There was about an hour of light levity and revelry in here with some of Zephyr's best friends and I really needed that to round off the weekend.

- Ritual to summon the Aurora - This is going to suck. Well, that was pretty easy. What? We have to go right into another battle to stop them kidnapping the May Queen and demoralize us by taking out allies? Whoa! Now *this* is the hellacious battle the last one should have been. And yay, we rescued her... but we what? We lost Midnight permanently? Now *that* sucked. Nice array of events lined up to keep us off balance, even if the Midnight thing wasn't "intentional".

- Turnip monster! - Hilariously funny. Great way to start off a Sunday. If you weren't there, well, I'm sure you'll hear about it from Grum at some point. It's his story to tell anyway. :-)

- The last of the Inquisition punishment - Who would have thought I'd be central to a Sunday end-game field fight? The last prisoner was brought to me for execution and as I'm questioning her an army of undead attack, Raoul coming as promised to face justice. Only he was attacking so I just spiked the prisoner to free us up... only she called 'no effect' to the death strike. Uh-oh! Negotiate? Not so much. Chaos and mayhem and a horrible battle going poorly. Ezrem unintentionally poked Zephyr's shaky mental condition and threw him into the worst bout of madness yet. He broke and began doing horrible things to the prisoner to try and break her liche lover. His friends decided to put him down. The battle was ended. Zephyr spiked the necromancer and there was much emotional strife to go around.

THE END

Sparkly clean Zephyr who rarely even gets an inflict, never mind carry it over the end of the event, left the event with not one, but two inflicts. This is a huge milestone. I'm making progress in my LARPing. :-p

Finally I will leave you with the first riddle that came into my head for the riddle competition with SoulDrinker. I didn't use it because she would have killed me on the spot for it, but it was so timely in light of current events that I had to share it. Don't worry if you don't get it if you're not up on Madrigal IG current events.

What's black and white and red (read) all over? (Go on, admit it. You're conditioned to go with the classic answer of a newspaper.) The correct answer is...

"I don't know. I don't know." :-)

I can't wait for the next event. Happy Monday all!

Yay doing things together again! I also DID NOT want to do Riddles with JJ but I did because I <3 you and won't let my Trouble Buddy die alone. :)

Boo Inflicts. Specifically boo Madness inflicts. Must fix quickly!

Their culture BLOWS. I walked into that with no warning or context.

[identity profile] kumir-k9.livejournal.com 2014-09-30 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
It's so nice to have friends that will risk death with me. Yay! Of course it's also nice to have friends that will keep me from killing myself needlessly too. :-)

Sorry about the 'no warning' part. I didn't have time. I didn't know we were going back over there again on Sunday. I guess Griff and JJ felt the need to strike while the iron was hot, so to speak.

[identity profile] callierat.livejournal.com 2014-09-30 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
Sorry about the 'no warning' part. I didn't have time.

Not your fault! I literally walked over seconds before you left and it was Jade Moth who asked if I wanted to go through the gate. I didn't ask to do what or for any details. Sonia just wanted to go through that gate . ;)

[identity profile] bluestocking.livejournal.com 2014-09-29 07:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay! Glad you had fun!

[identity profile] kumir-k9.livejournal.com 2014-09-30 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
So much fun! *hugs* <3

Wait, what? Huh?
Dude, I think Zephyr needs to slow his roll on executing random women. I heard that ended badly this one time.

Riddle me this demon.
I was really unsure whether to go, once I realized that the bard one was something I was terrible at. But You guys aced it, from what I say, and it was really cool to watch. I dunno why, I really love almost any encounter that takes place down by that amphitheatre. It's such a cool space.

There was a new NPC (Nicole) playing a bard
Nicole is awesome. I had had the good fortune of getting to run bard RP for her at Numina, so I was really excited to be on the other side of it!

Nice array of events lined up to keep us off balance, even if the Midnight thing wasn't "intentional".
Hmmm. *side-eye at Bloodhaunt*
I really loved singing dirges with you on the way back, without any kind of planning or preparation. <3 Nice nudge, Trey ;)

Who would have thought I'd be central to a Sunday end-game field fight?
I spent that fight alternating between kidney-stabbing Rob, giggling like mad at the various shenanigans, and wincing with sympathy for Zephyr.

Zephyr didn't literally kill Min. Min will be dead to her society. She will have committed unspeakable acts by knowledge Zephyr is giving her. There was a man that looked like Jade Moth, a man with a different name, to their society a different person. That man was Min's brother. He died. On the same day he died, Jade Moth came into being. Thus will it be with Min.

Now, that being said, she may also be executed and that *will* be a literal death and indirectly Zephyr will have that death on his hands too. However, this has all been done with Golden Tiger's permission and counsel. All involved feel that the time has come for Min to know why her brother "died" and for her to continue it. It's all very messy and complicated and horribly, terribly tragic... and in Zephyr's opinion totally unnecessary, but that's that part of him that still can't accept their culture and traditions.

I could have just accepted the total challenge of the riddles, but that's not fun and inclusive and if I had screwed up, it could have meant death for Zephyr and failure to defeat her. While I could handle the death I couldn't risk the failure. So I devised this clever idea to draft a whole bunch of riddles and hand them out to all those people who said they are terrible at riddles so that all could participate who wished. Yay! :-)

The dirge singing was awesome. Any time I get to do music with you it makes me happy. <3

[identity profile] bakeneko.livejournal.com 2014-09-29 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Aw man :/ I didn't know that happened with Min.

On the other hand, JJ and I totally don't have a contest running about how many Asian-y plots we can sucker you into. Not even a little.

Awesome job on making the riddling inclusive!

And ditto, on the music-ing!

[identity profile] bluestocking.livejournal.com 2014-09-30 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
"Nice nudge, Trey ;)"

I are subtle!

(Yay, awesome singing!)

[identity profile] jjmarika.livejournal.com 2014-09-30 01:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I was really unsure whether to go, once I realized that the bard one was something I was terrible at.

Yeah, I felt a bit bad at making the bard contest so non-musical, but I couldn't think of any musical version where I would have even a vague chance at winning, and that has to be a possibility. Glad you enjoyed watching it, anyway.

[identity profile] bakeneko.livejournal.com 2014-09-30 01:37 pm (UTC)(link)
That makes perfect sense-- it was very cool

[identity profile] grumblykins.livejournal.com 2014-09-29 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Now, see, I would have run skipping to do riddles with JJ.

[identity profile] bakeneko.livejournal.com 2014-09-29 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
And, as I recall, did!

[identity profile] jjmarika.livejournal.com 2014-09-30 01:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, what she said.

[identity profile] kumir-k9.livejournal.com 2014-09-29 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Had I known this I would not have sweated half of Saturday asking half of town to come do it.

[identity profile] merlask.livejournal.com 2014-09-30 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
Glad you had a good event! Missed you guys terribly.

[identity profile] kumir-k9.livejournal.com 2014-09-30 12:08 pm (UTC)(link)
You may rest assured that you were in our thoughts as well, every time we agonized over those letters trying to figure out exactly what they said. :-p

[identity profile] merlask.livejournal.com 2014-10-01 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
I checked with Rob, and *technically* anyone who got the fog lifted off of them during game can ping me to get what they actually said ;)

You know I wasn't even meaning for that to be a huge puzzle. I just figured you guys would look at them friday and be like "oh, haha fog, nice one Amanda".

Incidentally they are all real letters.

[identity profile] kumir-k9.livejournal.com 2014-10-01 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
Zephyr is de-mist-ified. Consider yourself pinged. :-)

Sent via email :)

Am glad you liked both the Souldrinker encounters, I was super nervous about both of them. I was surprised and pleased at what a joint effort they became/were.

That culture sucks... hard.

:) I was sad that some of the other people who were involved in that plotline from the get-go weren't there, but was glad that Zephyr did, in fact, get it. :insert evil laugh:

And that was my favorite Sunday fight that we've had in a while. Though I was very, very confused at the screaming coming from the prisoner and Ezrem stunning you mid-fight.

[identity profile] kumir-k9.livejournal.com 2014-09-30 01:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I tried to get all the other involved people there, but they were all under the sea and Jade Moth couldn't wait for them. :-(

Oh yeah, Zephyr got it all right, deep in the gut.

Awesome fight Sunday. I'll bet you never thought you'd see the day Zephyr tortured someone. I've always wanted to use agony by thunder in such a dramatic fashion and I was so happy that Nicole played along like that with such an awesome scream. :-) Sunday was a perfect storm.

[identity profile] bluestocking.livejournal.com 2014-09-30 02:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay!

I'm so glad folks seemed to like it. It was my first field fight, and I was really worried that it would all be too silly.

[identity profile] kumir-k9.livejournal.com 2014-09-30 03:20 pm (UTC)(link)
What was silly about that fight? That fight was serious as a heart attack and potentially as deadly. It was bad enough that I resorted to frying the prisoner with lightning to see if she could be hurt and then healing her so I could torture her to get the liche to drop his protection on her to try and end it.

I of course had the fallback excuse of a madness infliction. I hope that was appropriately obvious to you as the plot person in the know and as dramatic to watch as it was to act out. :-)

[identity profile] callierat.livejournal.com 2014-09-30 04:22 pm (UTC)(link)
The field fight was awesome. After a weekend of high-stakes world-ending plot a hint of silliness was exactly what was needed. :)

[identity profile] ezrem.livejournal.com 2014-09-30 08:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah I may need to write a letter to town to explain, cos I confused everyone

[identity profile] kumir-k9.livejournal.com 2014-09-30 08:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, poor, innocent Zephyr, cut down by someone he thought he could trust. Who would have expected such betrayal? 0:-)
