Oh the shame of it all
Sep. 14th, 2007 06:13 amThe Patriots have been found guilty of CHEATING! Full official story here: http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=09000d5d80251b7e&template=with-video&confirm=true
I say official story because I'm sure that all sorts of newspapers and fan sites will have their own variations of the official story along with mass speculation and reasons why Bill Belichick got off light and how terrible it is that he was *only* hit with the maximum allowable penalty.
Don't get me wrong. What he did was totally wrong and inexcusable. He deserves that full penalty, much as it pains me to hear that the Patriots will lose either a first round draft pick or if they don't make the playoffs, a second and third round draft pick. That's the real penalty. The $750,000 is incidental, IMO.
What's worse, I don't see why he *needed* to do it and if he was going to, why he was so stupid as to do it in the blatant manner he did. It's a sad day for the Patriots' reputation. Here's hoping they continue on in spite of it all to prove they're still the best team in the NFL.
