Fun Friday night
Nov. 10th, 2007 01:10 pmMonique and I drove up to Southborough MA last night to see the lovely and talented
vanora27 perform in Seussical, the musical. What a wonderful show. I had never seen it or even heard that much about it, but let me just say that you really should see it. The primary plot is "Horton Hears a Who". Interspersed are references or clips from several other Seuss stories, weaving them all into this magical world. The set was simplistic, but very colorful, beautiful and effective. The costumes were wonderful. There were a few outstanding actors that made the show, particularly the Cat in the Hat, JoJo (a fourth grader with amazing control and stage presence), Horton the elephant and Gertrude McFuzz. The pit orchestra was great (except for the occasionally too loud drummer). The woodwind player particluary amazed me with his tone and control on the flute and piccolo, not that I'm biased toward those particular instruments. ;-) All things considered, even if you weren't going just to support vanora27, the show is more than worth the $15 admission in the entertainment value.
Monique and I decided to pass on the 2 1/2 hour drive back and stayed at a DoubleTree hotel in Southboro. We were greeted with warm chocoale chip cookies at the front desk. This was pretty cool, especially since we rushed to get up there and had eaten at Wendy's because we didn't have time for a 'real' meal. The room was comfortable and the bed was quite welcome. We watched "Knocked Up" before going to sleep. Fun movie, though perhaps a bad choice since we were both exhausted and nodding off in the last half hour.
We came home this morning and now move on to more mundane things like cleaning and database design.
