Catching up
Feb. 3rd, 2009 07:09 amWeekend was good. I went to the one day NERO RH revel. I thought the plot team did a fine job running good, well thought out, plot integrated mods. The mods were there in abundance and I actually turned one down in favor of a team meeting and had to beg off a different team activity to go on another that sought me out specifically.
The NPC shift was shorter than I would have liked, but playing it longer would have meant staying through the feast as that character and I really didn't have time. Lily (Mikki P) and Kumir performed "There's a Fine, Fine Line" after the feast. I was quite pleased with that. I love performing with Mikki. She's got such a great voice.
I had awesome roleplay with several characters that helped further my own goals along and lots of general fluff roleplay, which is always good, and lots of scritches behind the ears from Luna. It's good to be a dog scavenger. ;-)
I was given the opportunity to pop my transform. I turned it down for character roleplay reasons. I like having one. It's cool and fits the character and isn't all about the power. Usually it just happens and you get no say. This one I could take it or not and because I had the choice and saw no reason to, I did not. I think that confused some of the people on the mod with me, but for Kumir, it was the right decision. He doesn't like what it does to him and will not just use it for no good reason.
I thought the feast was very good. The chicken was huge, moist, tender and delicious. In fact, I couldn't finish my meal. It was one of the more impressive LARP meals I've had in a long while.
I have two gripes with the event. The first is the automatic limited reset after every mod. I know a lot of people like that. I understand that it lets you cut loose on every single mod. It just feels contrived. It's counter to everything you learn on how to play the game. It trivializes the dangers on the mods. I blew death spells at the end of a mod because it was the easy way out. Normally, those get saved for life spells except in extreme situations. But most people seem to like it, so I will suck it up. It certainly didn't make the event unenjoyable.
The other complaint is... is... uh, huh, that's funny. I can't remember it now. If it comes back to me, I'll edit this.
I saw an awesome display of plot regard for player fun. While I was up in monster camp getting back into Kumir after my role, I saw the plot team going down the list of attendees making sure that every person had been hit and trying to plan on how to make sure that people who had had less attention than others would get more. It was a good example of plot proactivity and it impressed me a lot.
Well, look at that. That was supposed to be a short recap and ended up being a short pre-PEL check list.
Chris and I drove home after the event and got home about 12:30. The ride home wasn't bad. Conversation with Chris is always good for keeping the mind engaged and awake and it's a good time to catch up with him. We don't talk much these days. Common problem with my family as a whole. I'll be glad when my schedule gets back where it belongs.
A big chunk of the conversation with Chris centered around the changes he's made to his character. When he started it, he was all excited about the character concept, which admittedly was pretty cool. In my opinion, he may have overplayed the character and it has not been as fun for him as he would have liked. His changes took all the flavor from the character (craftsmen, racial, formal levels and secondary column) and replaced them with fighting skills. In essence, he sacrificed the character concept for power. The argument was that it was only for now and that he would start buying them back. Every time I said, "You gave those things up", he said, "No, I'm going to buy them back". Apparently, our definitions are different. It was amusing and it passed the time.
Sunday we slept in until about 8:30 and then after a leisurely breakfast, I attacked the balancing of my checkbook, budgeting and bills. I hadn't touched this in about a month, so it took the better part of the day. Well, that and the fact that I was somewhat lethargic and kept finding myself staring at the screen in a daze.
Flute choir rehearsal went well. It was one of the more exhausing rehearsals in a while. We really worked some sections of the music in minute detail. That meant most people had time they weren't doing anything, but I was busy the entire time as a director. And two of my members were sort of subtly in-fighting. So I was playing director and manager at the same time. I hate that kind of stuff. We're a friendly group. I don't have time for egos and usually don't have to deal with it. Unfortunately, we have a new member (3rd time) who's quite good and I think another member feels a little threatened. Overall though, we got a lot done, but it was very tiring.
Monique has a couple of days off and Thursday she has a face-to-face meeting with her boss in Hartford, so we're taking a couple days away from home and staying at a hotel about 4 minutes from work. It was really nice when I left work at 8:00 last night to be "home" at 8:04. I could get used to that. In fact, over the next few days, I probably will. It will be extra special tonight when we have 2"-4" of snow to just drive around the corner. I save an hour and a half to two hours of my day and get some extra time with my darling wife. The hotel is fairly expensive, but it's a large suite and it includes breakfast and dinner, so as far as I'm concerened it's a total win.
