Busy weekend

Boy, we packed in a lot of stuff this weekend.
Saturday, while Monique was at her weight loss check-in and meeting, Elijah and I went and did the grocery shopping. Shopping with a 4 year old is a fun experience. "Pepere, can I look at that?". "Yes Elijah... Elijah, look with your eyes, not your fingers". Apparently 4 year olds have an extra eye at the end of their fingers that helps them "see" things better. Overall though he was very good and I rewarded him at the end with a candy of his choice. He picked a small bag of M&Ms.
After we picked up Monique, we went out to breakfast. The pre-diner conversation with Elijah was fun, the typical "What do you want?" type of stuff and we have to provide a list of possible breakfast foods because of course he doesn't know what he wants. Included in the list was bacon even though he always says he doesn't like bacon. I've been having a lot of fun convincing Elijah to eat things he "doesn't like". I asked him if he's had the "bad" bacon or the "good" bacon. Of course he said the bad bacon, so I told him this diner has the "good" bacon. Guess what he tried from my plate and decided he likes.
I've used various techniques with getting him to eat things he "doesn't like" and he's now eating things like most vegetables and fish. It's amazing how much fish fingers taste like chicken fingers to a four year old that loves chicken. Of course there's still a couple of things that he really doesn't like and we don't force that on him, but he is becoming far more adventurous in what he eats.
But I digress; must be early onslaught of Zephyritis. ;-)
We dragged Elijah all around Home Depot with us... ok, Monique dragged me around Home Depot and I dragged Elijah with me. If I had to suffer through it, so did he. Though really he and I kept each other entertained while Monique looked at things like tile for the kitchen floor and carpets for the living room and dining room (stain resistant of course because of Elijah...and his father).
We were hoping to get to the Monroe Apple Festival to raise money for one of the three churches on our local green, but the weather didn't cooperate well. Fortunately (well, sort of) Erin and Alysha had to bail on Sundays vineyard tour, and since Sunday was beautiful we had another day open for the Festival.
I was happy about the festival because this was the first time in many years that I didn't have a LARP on that weekend. There was the usual array of crafters. We bought a whole lot of stained glass window hangings.
I haven't actually placed the order yet, but I took the contac info for this one couple who does really inexpensive but sturdy, cool looking wood tombstones for Halloween. All their stones had cutesy sayings on them or I'd have bought several of them. As it is, I'll be ordering a bunch with a much more spooky bent to them.
They also had beautiful hardy mums being sold by the church so we picked up a half dozen of those.
We spent about 15 minutes at the fancy Hula-Hoop tent. Elijah was focused on getting the hang of it. I almost got him one because he seemed to enjoy it so much, but the image of a 4 year old swinging a hula-hoop in the house got the better of me.
I was bummed about missing the Alysha/Erin time though. :-(
We've had the house torn up for a couple of weeks for a lot of rework throughout the entire middle floor and the upstairs hallway. It's involved moving a lot of furniture multiple times from room to room as the contractors have been working. Monique, Chris and I spent several hours doing a lot of dusting, washing and moving of stuff for what we hope is the next-to-last time. The carpets will be in within a couple of weeks, but the work that's caused all the dust in the air is done, so we could do the heavy cleaning.
Oh, and there was a Patriots game in there against the Titans. We won! Woo-hoo!
That's about it. It was a busy, fun, productive weekend. Back to work. Happy Monday everyone.
