Birthday weekend
Jan. 21st, 2013 08:20 amNot my birthday, Monique's. She actually turns 50 today, but we celebrated the weekend with a trip to Ledyard CT with a few friends and family members. Saturday saw a rousing several hours of video bingo at Foxwoods, extended an hour and a half by massive system issues. This in turn made us quite late for our rendezvous with Randy and Tracy and two of Monique's friends from work at Mohegan Sun, where we had dinner at Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville restaurant. Then off to a comedy show and a relatively early night at the bed and breakfast where we all stayed. Sunday, 6 of us went to Foxwoods and did a 6 person slot tournament followed by some solo gambling, then back to the B&B for a short nap, some casual conversation that was supposed to be game playing and then the washout that was the Patriots game.
Let's see, Monique and I both won absolutely nothing at bingo and lost everything we played for slots and tables. Our football team forgot to bring its offense. Lady luck just wasn't with us this weekend, but there were still a lot of fun things.
The restaurant was fantastic. The food was good and the place had a really fun atmosphere. There were these guys on stilts that were going around the restaurant making balloon hats for people. Monique got a balloon crown. Randy got a balloon football helmet. Dana got a balloon viking helmet complete with horns and braids. Chris got a monkey on a palm tree. The balloon talent was unvelievable.
The comedian was a bit dated with some of his material, but his delivery was awesome and i spent most of the show laughing hysterically.
We stayed at a bed and breakfast less than a mile from Foxwoods. This was our second time staying at it. We rented four of their rooms for two nights so that we'd have a common base to work from with everyone who was out there. That worked out well. I left there at 5:40 this morning to get to work on time.
All in all, a pretty good celebration of Monique's 50th.
