Saturday's Madrigal RP day was a great deal of fun, with puzzles and toasts and boons and story telling and role-play, though Hope and I ended up getting there late because of some sort of traffic accident. The ride up itself was delightful. I get very little time to chat with the real Hope and the ride was a great opportunity for that. Anyway, I digress...
I should have just stayed away from the puzzle table. I obsess about things like puzzles, can't put them down until I finish them. This isn't usually a big issue because I usually finish puzzles. I took a word puzzle and finished it in a reasonable amount of time, so took a second. It was a pretty simple word scramble puzzle, except I couldn't for the life of me unscramble one of the words. Instead of being stubborn and doing the darned thing in my head, I should have just accepted defeat and gone for paper; in fact, I did for a short while
The letters presented were STA E CON R. The 'E' and the 'R' couldn't be moved from their positions in that string. There's only so many logical strings that will come before an 'R' ending a word so I played with those for a long time. At one time (several times actually since I went over the same things a lot) I had
'_ _ CEST _ R'
This leaves:
NOCESTAR
ONCESTAR (I had thought of this as ONCE STAR early on in a different line of thought)
NACESTOR
ANCESTOR
Note that the last one screams the right answer (when you're looking at it on paper), but when hearing hard C's in your head from the first one and carrying it over to the rest, not so much. I asked Trey for the right answer after the event and couldn't figure out how I missed that. It wasn't until I was driving home that I went through an hour (more?) of my thought processes until I figured out where I went wrong. Boy do I feel stupid.
I get so little time with Dave I. that it was just awesome to get time with him alone, one-on-one. Patrick Seerless has so many layers to him. I wonder why I've never managed to get any time with him before. I will have to watch for him again.
The rest of the event was a blast though and I do hope we have the opportunity to do this again though maybe with more warning so that people will have time to plan for it. The Eurvein had a great "theoretical" discussion with Ranelle that wasn't really planning for the future because of the "theoretical" nature of it. Then I got to have a marvelous philosophical and emotional discussion with Petros and Halia. In the words of Hope (after the event), "You're a very bad man". I try. 0:-)
The story from Khaelwyn was fascinating, entertaining and sort of awful all in one shot and the roleplay with her was a great deal of fun.
I missed time with Nur because of the stupid puzzle, though her brief flute playing was enough to get my attention. :-) I should have just said, "Fuck the puzzle" at that point but I'm stubborn and compulsive. *sigh*
Camilla is a sheer roleplay delight as always. It was so much fun chatting with her and Magpie. The music was fun and lighthearted and terribly entertaining. Getting to play after was a good time for me, especially when Magpie went to get Tashka to perform "One of Us" with me. I love that song and I love performing with Tashka. There's a really good synergy between us.
The drive home after was a bit tough. Three of the three Dunkin' Donuts I stopped at for coffee were closed. There was one I knew would be open, but it has no drive thru and I didn't really feel like going inside in full Zephyr makeup and costume. Still, I had a couple of things to think about that kept my brain active and then there's the AVenue Q sound track that I sang to the rest of the way home, so all was good in the end.
Sleeping in Sunday morning was just wonderful. I got everything from Saturday put away and even got the clothes washed (except for the shirt which always gets dry cleaned). And then we finished up the day with a fine day of football with a victory over Houston, taking us to next week's AFC championship game. Yay!
And so to work. Happy Monday everyone!
