Friday night, Monique and I went out to dinner and a show with a friend of hers from her work and a friend of mine from my work.  We went to dinner at Brazi's, a wonderful Italian restaurant in the same plaza as the theatre.  The atmosphere was nice.  The food was great and reasonably priced.  And of course, I had the company of three lovely ladies.  Who would have known that my friend from work had a background in the healthcare industry.  In fact, she used to work with a woman who currently works for Monique.  I figured Pam and Monque would talk work all night and Sherri and I would be bored.  Nope.  Monique and Sherri hit it off fabulously and talked insurance issues through most of the meal.

Then the show, Menopause, The Musical.  It's about four menopausal women who meet while fighting over bargain clothers at Macy's in NY City.  There's a high powered business women, an aging soap opera star on the verge of being replaced with a younger star, a small town mid-Western woman visiting the city and a woman who's still living in the 60's (picture Dharma's mother from Greg and Dharma).  The show is filled with songs from the 60s and 70s that have had the words changed to fit the various aspects of menopause that the women are going through.  I have never laughed so hard.  I was laughing so hard I was crying a couple times.  This was an absolutely wondeful show.  If you're looking to laugh, this is a must see.
Saturday morning, I got up at my usual 5:00 to get to Fitchburg, MA for a rehearsal with members from the Nashua Flute Choir. We were putting together the music for   rowan_syngwyn  and   vyseryn  's wedding.  It was so wonderful to see my dear friends again and to spend time together and play together.  I love my current group and they're quite good, but nothing will ever take the place in my heart of the NFC and the very special people there that I played with for 19 years.

The wedding went off almost without a hitch.  We played a fairly lengthy movement of Mozart's Eine Kleine Nachtmusik for the wedding party and the bride to enter to.  We had some interesting instructions from the bride on where to stop depending on where in the piece she reached the stage, all reletive to rehearsal letter "E" in the piece.  The unforseen happened and we reached the end of the piece before the bride got out.  Now clearly, the director of the NFC, down at the other end of the line from me, must have been having the same panic attack as me toward the end when we realized we were going to hit the end and need more music and somehow pull the group together without instructions to provide music for the bride.  The most wondeful connection of great minds I've ever seen occurred.  We cut the last chord, looked at each other and without skipping a beat said in unison, "Letter E".  Everyone heard it, she jumped in on the three pickup notes to "E" and the group miraculously all came in together for a perfect continuation.

It was a wondeful turnaround for my LARP friends.  So often, we in the LARP world have mundanes who know us talk about "that thing" we do, even though they don't really understand it.  I've always had that feeling that my LARP friends feel that way towards "that thing" Rick does with a bunch of other flutists.  It absolutely warmed my heart to be able to play for them and get them to see "that thing" in action and then get their reactions to it.

The reception was marvelous.  The bride and groom were just perfect together.  The food was interesting.  I tried some things I normally snub my nose at.  While I wouldn't go out of my way for that kind of food (think English High Tea), I was pleasantly surprised by much of it.  The company was most pleasant.  It's always a joy to listen to ryxander tell stories, so animated and humorous and we got to talk Shool of Seven Virtues.  Croquet was amusing, even if I came in last.  It's wondefully entertaining to spend so much time, without time constraints, with my LARP friends OOG.  I wish I could have this kind of time more often.  *sigh*

I was utterly exhausted and actually had to stop at a rest area north of Hartford to take a 20 minute cat nap because I was having trouble keeping my eyes open while driving, but it was so worth it.

I spent most of Sunday fighting with my computer, so I won't spend a lot of time on Sunday.  Silver Village Flute Chor had its first rehearsal of the season last night.  I decided for laughs to try the wedding music on them.  It was a lot of reading and for my own peace of mind, I wanted to see how we'd do.  It wasn't quite the same as the NFC performance of Saturday, but I was pleasantly surprised at how well we did on some of that music with no rehearsal.  There's a few spots where we are rough around the edges, but I was quite happy overall.  I must remember to add sight reading to our routine on a regular basis.

And then the Pats played the Chargers.  We beat them 38 - 14, the exact same score by which we beat the Jets last week.  A new tradition we'll be using for the year?  Here's hoping.  And we did it without getting caught cheating too.   ;-)  The speculation on that was most interesting and of course the interview with Bob Kraft about it at half time was utterly worthless.  All in all, a very good game and a good end to a great weekend.
