My lead programmer and I attended a seminar up in Hartford the last two days. The seminar itself was ok. It probably could have been squeezed into one day if we'd gone 8:00 to 5:00 instead of 9:00 to 4:00 and if shortened all of our breaks.
Anyway, we got out at 11:00 yesterday because the instructor was freaking over the snow and we'd covered everything by then anyway.

It took us 2 1/2 hours to get back to work when it's only 40 minutes away. Holy crap, that was ugly. We were on ice at some points. There was one hill the 18 wheelers couldn't climb. Fortunately it was a four lane highway so there was room for traffic to crawl around them in the lane they hadn't jack knifed into, a lane that was variable depending on where which truck had slid and couldn't move.
And then, just before we get back to the shop, I get a call from one of my guys telling me we're closing the plant at 2:00. So I got to work just in time to go home. Good thing in my mind. This 35 minute trip took me almost an hour and a half, a trip I'm glad I didn't make in the dark. As much as
sans_peurthought it was kind of zen, I thought it sucked balls.

I got home early and figured I'd catch up on the database I'm behind on. But my email issue was still in full swing. I spent a couple hours working on that, stopped for supper and went back to it. I started a clean-up process going on my PC about 7:30 and laid down on the bed just for a few minutes to rest. I woke up next at 5:00 this morning when the alarm went off. That's right, I spent 9 1/2 hours sleeping. I've been exhausted lately, so I guess I needed it.
Then I had to deal with packing for the weekend, because I slept through the period I was going to do it last night. And more snow woes. It was covered in snow and ice and didn't want to move from its parking space. I had to wake Chris to help me push it out.
He was in one of the guest bedrooms with his gilfriend. Apparently, late last night, their downstairs area began to smell strongly of raw sewage. Yep, there's another one of those "s" words. We just had the septic emptied a few weeks ago and a septic pump replaced in the basement. I guess the plumber will be paying us another visit.
Off to NH tonight to take my dad out Christmas shopping tomorrow, a Christmas party tomorrow night, a visit with mom Sunday morning and a performance at a nursing home Sunday afternoon, all subject to cooperation from the forecast Nor'Easter of course.
