Damn, this got a lot longer than I originally thought, so I'll put it behind cuts.

Wow!  Second pretty decent weekend in a row.  What's going on with that?  I could get used to it.  Friday night was very low key.  Monique and I just watched TV and went to bed at a reasonable hour.  We slept in Saturday morning and then Monique went off to work while I stayed home and (half-heartedly) worked on her database project.

Saturday afternoon, Amy and I (and Elijah) went out to lunch at Friendly's on the way to my flute choir performance.  It amuses me to think of what must go through people's heads when they see us because we sure got a lot of stares.
"Awwww, isn't the baby cute?"
"He's kind of old to have a baby with a young girl like that.  What a pervert."
"I'll bet that's her divorced dad taking her out for the once-a-year obligatory time with his daughter."

I felt like wrongly confirming some of those assumptions by saying something out loud to Amy like:
1. "I think the baby looks more like me than like you" or   (I am his grandfather, he could look like me)
2. "So, do you want to go to your place or mine after?" or  (She lives in my house with my son)
3. "How's your mother doing these days?".   (I've met Diana several times and haven't seen her in a while)
It's the little things that amuse me, especially since any of them, while entirely plausible and true to form, would easily lead people to further false assumptions.  Of course, the baby *is* awfully cute.  ;-)

The flute choir played at the Ronald McDonald House Trees of Hope.  It's a charity affair that we've played at every year for several years now.  This year had some interesting snags.  I was late, due to the afore mentioned lunch.  Three of my players forgot to bring stands.  We had to restart three songs due to people either not watching or starting out in the wrong time.  I hate when people forget to mark things like that.  On the bright side, the sound was really good and the ensemble held together really well.  A few of the pieces were absolutely gorgeous.  Overall, I'd give the performance a B+.

Saturday night was more laid back TV watching while Monique wrapped Christmas presents.

Sunday, Monique and I went out to breakfast and she went to work again, seeing as she didn't even start the primary task she went in for on Saturday.  Since she was really stressing about the condition of the house, I went back and cleaned up a lot of the mess from the previous night and made chili for Sunday's game.  Then I went and put in a few more hours on the database project.  I really like building databases, but I'll be glad when this one is done.  I did pick up some interesting techniques in building stored procedures though.

I got a most pleasant and unexpected IM from [livejournal.com profile] burkefireguy11  asking me to drop him a line, so I gave him a call.  It was a nice chat with a really cool surprise reason for wanting to talk to me.  Let's just say that my friends are really awesome and I am most pleased.

Sunday night we watched the football game and ate chili.  Yay!  Go Pats!  The chili was really good too. I'd never made it before.  Of course, I've never cooked much of anything before.  Why would I want to cook when I've got an amzing cook like Monique?

We crashed relatively early (8:00 for her, 9:30 for me).  I woke to the cat purring in my face at 7:00 this morning.  My first thought was "dumb cat" and then it occurred to me that it was light out and it turned into "thank goodness the cat alarm went off".  I love my kitty.  :-)  It was tough for Monique because she wanted to be at work by 6:30 this morning, but I had a dentist appointment at 8:00, so it was ok.

As you can guess, if I had a dentist appointment at 8:00, I didn't get to work until about 9:45.  One of my tech support guys had a scheduled vacation day off.  I haven't heard from the second tech support guy, though his grandmother was being taken off life support equipment at the end of last week, so I suspect he's off tending to a funeral.  My third tech support guy starts at 11:30; that's his normal time.  That meant that when I got here, our tech support lines were not being answered for over an hour, after a weekend, during our regularly scheduled hours.  To top it off, our one customer service person who handles the electronic product is out sick today and the primary installation clerk is out sick today too.  Must be a full moon or something.  It's kind of like a comedy of errors or sort of a perfect storm.  Enough chatter.  My lunch "break" is over.  Back to the storm.
