So for the next couple of days (Wed and Thurs) I'll be attending a conference at Mohegan Suns for the JDE Users' Group.  For those of you who don't know it, JDE is an Enterprise software made by Oracle.  It's also what the company I work for uses and I'm responsible for a lot of it.  It also has... issues.  Hey sans_peur, how was that for politic?

Anyway, I'll be going to 7 or 8 seminars over the next two days, listening to how other companies have handled some issues and what some 3rd party consultants recommend, undoubtedly in the attempt to sell you their services.

So, the bottom line is I'll be pretty much out of touch for the next couple of days, but I'll be checking emails and such at night at my hotel room, which is a Best Western down the road from Mogean Suns and not at the casino itself.

Look at that, a post, and only a week and a half since the last one.

Oh wait, I just got back from one.  There were 1755 emails awaiting me this morning.  After deleting the obvious garbage, I'm left with just 409 to address.  With any luck, people will stop bringing me problems that aren't mine and I might actually get to them.  How in the world did some people get by without me last week?

I will keep reminding myself all week, "Do not repeat the last pre-Madrigal week.  No over-stressing.  No working too late.  No staying up too late.  No migraines."

Exhausted

So we've been going through this transition from our old ERP system to the new one.  Friday I was here from 7:00 in the morning until midnight.  Saturday I was here from about 8:15 until 2:30 in the morning.  Sunday I was here from about 8:30 to 4:00.  The only reason I left at 4:00 on Sunday is because I was hosting the final pre-perfromance rehearsal of my flute choir in my home.

Sunday night I had four friends from VA stay over on their way back from NCPing Endgame.  I foolishly stayed up until after midnight chatting with them, but I rarely get to see these fine folk and I will happily pay the price to have spent time with them.

Unfortunately, Monday I was back in here at my normal hour.  Last night I was here until 8:30.  By 8:00 last night I was having trouble forming coherent thoughts.  I was late getting in this morning because I just couldn't drag myself out of bed.

The transition is going relatively smoothly.  You can read that as rocky road with lots of speed bumps, but so far no tank traps that will stop us dead.

However, life knew things were going way too smoothly for me, so it threw me a few curve balls.  My programmer had emergency surgery the weekend before go live and has been out for the last week and a half.  We don't know when he'll be back.  One of my three tech support guys had a motorcycle accidnet this weekend, fractured an eye socket in three places, multiple bruises and contusions, can't talk or keep his eye open, don't know when I'll get him back.  One of my other two had his grandfather die this weekend and so is out today through Friday.  So, um, yeah, my regular job on top of this is sucking mightily.

I only have to hold together for another week and a half before a two week vacation.  I think I can, I think I can, I think I can.

2:00 am and we're back on track for where we need to be to close out Saturday night,  well, sort of.  Close enough.  Off to the hotel to sleep for a few hours.

Breathe in... breathe out...breathe in... breathe out...breathe in... breathe out...breathe in... breathe out...

So far behind schedule in prepping for the nightmare that is this weekend's data conversion, I can't even begin to describe it.   I would ask any of you out hitting things with plumbing supplies this weekend to whack something for me.  There's a very good chance I'll actually be at my desk getting the stress relief at the moment you do it.
