Friendship
Oct. 21st, 2008 08:30 amI was thinking (yeah, dangerous, I know) on my drive home from NERO this weekend about friends. I have an amazing number of people I deem friends and I often wonder at this.
One of my dearest friends in the world, keyla, is getting married in two weeks. She has asked me to play at her wedding. It is an incredible statement to me of both our friendship and what my music means to her.
Her fiance, who I consider a friend, though not nearly as close to me (yet) as keyla, suffered the loss of his father this past weekend. I can't imagine the pain this is causing them, especially considering the timing. I will be at the wake to show my love and support of my friends. I can't imagine how anyone who calls themselves friend could do less.
What really started this line of thinking was LARPing. I just had the most amazing weekend and it's because friends went out of their way to see that I was given the lead in a plot line that was filled with glorious moments (highs and lows) in which I was able to include so many other friends. This isn't the first time either. It's happened multiple times in both NERO and Madrigal. And the way it usually happens is my friends taking pleasure in trying to find new and innovative ways to outsmart me, not to beat me (though there seems an element to that, which I enjoy), but to challenge me and entertain me.
Then this weekend, eclecticgypsy created the inspiring icon you see on this post, an icon of music and love. It truly touched me that these are the two elements she associated with me in creating this icon. It's beautiful and the fact that she took her time and creative energy for me in this fashion is truly heart warming. It will rank up there with the Zephyr portrait that silverhare did for my birthday. These are examples of the things that amaze me when my friends do them. I'm just in awe of these.
There are so many examples of things my friends do for me that I don't think I thank them all enough for. This could be a very long post. However, I think I'll stop here and just say thank you to all of you out there that consider yourself a friend. Know that I appreciate each and every one of you.
Ok, I'm done being emotional now. Back to work.
