I couldn't let Halloween go without doing *something*, so I decided to decorate my office and the entryway into it. In the area outside my office I set up a cemetary and then turned my office into the sanctum of a demon, which I played. Here are some pictures with descriptions.
On the left hand side of the walk to my office is the left side of the graveyard. You can see trees in the background with ghosts above those. In this shot you can see the upper portion of the graveyard with assorted tombstones. The one on the far left has a hand coming out of the ground, which has fingers moving as if they're trying to claw their way out and the second one has a ghostly face that shows up and screams, motion activated of course. :-)
This shot shows the upper and lower cemetery nicely, right down to the real leaves on the ground for that added crunch and smell as you walk through.
Here's that ghostly tombstone in action.
On the right hand side was more graveyard. if you look closely you'll see a zombie torso clawing its way out of the ground, moaning and pulling itself forward by the arms through the leaves. It's pretty creepy.
The door to my office has a skeletal guardian with light up green eyes and creepy sound effect.
Inside the office, much of it was lined in early Dungeon. I had a skeleton in a cage that lit up and shook, usually when my demon poked him and told him to properly greet my guests, a large spider web that glowed beautifully under the black lights and a guy being eaten by spiders.
This work of art is a mirror over a fireplace, all a plastic sheet with a couple of well placed lights and a sound pack. Just over it you can see the legs of a large inflatable spider. The fireplace was good for getting people's attention as it made noise. This was good because (next picture please)....
You can see here the spider in much better lighting. From behind my desk I could unobtrusively manually lower and raise the spider on a line of fishing thread. This is how the spider was named today. One woman turned at just the wrong time and yelled out, "Jesus!" From that point forward the spider's name was Jesus. (Forgive me God; it's a joke) :-)
Here's the view behind my desk of the flames from Hell and the way back to my inner sanctum. Of course I don't have an inner sanctum, cool as that might be, but the decorations portray it well, especially in the dim blacklighting of the room that the flash camera doesn't show well.
And even just blank walls weren't spared decoration for effect. Scene setters and wall clings are very effective, especially in dim lighting.
Here we have the front of my desk, complete with creepy candelabras, a self opening and closing book that threatens to do evil things, a couple of skull goblets and a really cool Medusa head that has glowing eyes and mouth and snake hair with several snakes that really move while she talks.... oh, and a potions tome that has candy as a treat for those brave enough to come into my lair. Of course even that is rigged to have a big brown spider jump out at you when you open the lid.
And of course the demon in his unnatural habitat...
And another at the entrance to his domain. Yes, I see now that my hood was off, thus ruining the effect a bit and I was indeed too lazy to put red makeup around my eyes. Deal with it! I was decorating my office until almost 1:00 in the morning and the costume was an afterthought. I ended up just rummaging around in one of my costume bins for 5 minutes.
I won the scariest costume competition at the company hands down... again! Funny how many people try for funniest, most original, etc these days and how few try for scariest. I don't get it.
It wasn't bad for a quick throw together.
I didn't realize Marlin moved you...

Well done!

Date: 2012-11-01 01:58 pm (UTC)Oh wait, I've only won it 11 years. The year we were working on installing a massive software product, I was working 80+ hour weeks for 9 months and I had absolutely no energy for Halloween. I didn't even wear a costume that year. But other than that I'm undefeated.
