Christmas weekend

Christmas four day weekend was pretty awesome.
Monique and I have this tradition of celebrating Christmas on Dec 21 because our first year together was in college and we had to celebrate Christmas on the 21st before going home for the holidays.... and Monique likes opening her presents a few days early. ;-)
So on Friday, the 21st, we went out to Mohegan Sun to see Straight No Chaser. What a phenomenal show. These guys are amazing. The sound was perfect. They did a tribute song, Fix You, for the families and friends of the victims of the CT shooting the week before. Wow! This recording doesn't quite do the performance justice, but it's pretty good.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WlB_Nz-7d9A They got a standing ovation for it. It was really moving. What a great way to start the weekend.
Saturday we drove up to NH and did a bunch of shopping then took Randy and Tracy out to dinner to kick off discussions for the 2013 haunted house. We're going to try for a haunted house up in the Nashua NH area to raise money for our favorite charity. And yes, we were talking Halloween two days before Christmas.
Sunday we took my mom out to breakfast and then went to her apartment to exchange presents. We spent the rest of the day at Randy and Tracy's exchanging present, eating (too much) and watching football (Go Pats!).
Monday Randy, Tracy, Mom, Chris, Monique and I went to Foxboro MA to visit the Patriots Hall of Fame. We spent about 2 hours there. It was pretty amazing. I had no idea it was even in there; well worth the visit. After lunch at one of the restaurants there we headed home.
Christmas Eve and Christmas Day were both relatively quiet days of playing games (Settlers of Catan and Ticket to Ride) and watching TV (JAG, NCIS and Once Upon a Time). We opted out of going to see The Hobbit figuring a nice quiet day would be more enjoyable. I think we made the right decision.
Presents? Oh yeah. Those were wonderful and cool, but somehow not the highlight of the weekend. Really, the time spent with family was the best part. But just for the sake of posterity...
- new gloves
- Patriots scarf
- Patriots shirt
- awesome wooden authentic native American flute from Randy and Tracy's trip to AZ (sounds fantastic, smooth and mellow; played with it for quiet a while after opening)
- beautiful stained glass ornament, musically themed (music, conductor's baton, violin, keyboard, clarinet) I didn't realize it, but after I had been admiring it down in VA, Monique snuck it into the shopping cart.
- tarantula, no, not a real one, thank goodness. It's a radio controlled tarantula with about an 8" leg span. It's legs move and it moves across the floor in a very realistic manner. It's really creepy and will make a fine addition to my next haunted house.
Now back to "reality". Happy Boxing Day everyone.
