Weekend review

Nutshell version, awesome weekend but utterly exhausting.
I went into the weekend already tired. JJ and Doal came by Thursday night and ate over and slept for a few hours on their way down to VA for a wedding. As is typical, we stayed up talking later than we should have for a work night. I did get a nice reprieve Friday morning though because I had an 8:00 dentist appointment, so I didn't have to get moving quite as early as normal. It's sad when I'd rather be at the dentist getting a cavity filled than at work, but like I told the dentist, "I'd rather be here than at work. At least you give me something for the pain".
I don't even remember why I stayed up late on Friday night, but I did and paid for it on Saturday morning. We didn't have the luxury of sleeping in as we had our weekend errands to run and be out of the house by 11:15 to head up for Zachary's birthday party up in Attleboro, MA with Elijah in tow. The party itself was fun. I spent a lot of time chatting with Dave, Hillary, Angus, Alysha, John, Michelle and Monique between bouts of children birthday fun like beating on a poor, helpless pinata (which to be fair held itsown amazingly well against the brazen cruelty of being strung up and pounded mercilessly with a stick) and present opening.
After everyone left we went out for a wonderful dinner with Angus and Alysha and John and Michelle. We went to Morins Bar and Grille in downtown Attleboro. They had a really nice, varied menu. The food was really good and the quantity was well worth the price. I took half my dinner home and... huh, now that I think about it, left it in John and Michelle's refrigerator. Damn it. Hey, Michelle, you have chicken parm and pasta in your refrigerator. Don't save it for me.
We watched Iron Man 3 after dinner. We managed to make it through finally in spite of interruptions for child care. It doesn't matter how good the kids play together, once it reaches a certain hour and they realize the *you* are having fun there will inevitably be lots of interruptions. "Mom, Elijah did this" "Pepere, Zachary did that" And the ever fun chorus of Zachary and Elijah ratting out Joshua for something. I can't complain though because overall they were pretty good. It was a fun movie too. Robert Downey Jr is just such an amazing Tony Stark. In true LARPer fashion (after Monique went to bed of course) we all stayed up and talked LARP until after 2:00 even though we knew we had to get up Sunday morning.
Sunday we were more than a little slow to get up and get moving. Gee, what a shock. We finally managed to get out of the house after a couple hours of most pleasant conversation and went down to The Breakfast Place for breakfast (you were expecting I was going to say lunch?) and then went up to Sterling MA to go to Davis Mega Corn Maze. Oh my goodness, this place is huge, acres of corn maze, mixed with puzzles you have to solve along the way and tons of activities inside the maze to stop and play when you reach them. They also have a zip line, lots of food and drink, a petting zoo, pick your own apples and pumpkins and after dark a flashlight only, haunted cornmaze (not for children; I wish we'd had time and no children). If you haven't been there you really should go. This place can be an entire days activity.
We got home around 9:00 and watched the football game, while writing the unusually brief PEL that I should have written *NOT* right under the wire while totally fried.
So for all of you who have Columbus Day off, boy, do I envy you. I would have loved nothing more than to sleep in today, maybe even until 7:00 or 8:00. Sooooo tired. Oh well, Mirror, Mirror is coming up this weekend. Maybe I'll catch up on my sleep then.
