Fantasy of Lights
Dec. 15th, 2010 07:58 amFantasy of Lights is an annual event designed to raise money for Easter Seals. Lighthouse Park in New Haven CT is decked out with over 60 large light displays, each one sponsored by a different company. UI provides the electricity. The companies provide the volunteers, a different company each night, to collect money, pass out programs, give instructions and give out some sort of little present at the end (e.g. candy canes). Cars drive through this winter wonderland.
Some companies get very spirited and provide additional entertainment, as is the case with my company. We generally provide Christmas characters at the front and back to delight the young and old alike. I've been playing Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer every year since 2006. This year, we had Rudolph, Santa and a Christmas Tree.

I've been doing it for 9 years now. There have been years where we've only had 40 cars the whole night because the weather was so bad, blizzards and rain with winds blowing so hard that the rain was coming down at angles. Through it all, my team has always been upbeat and cheery. This year was awesome. There was a light dusting of snow that made everything sort of magical without the harsh conditions. It may have been a bit chilly, but for those of us in costumes it was just perfect. Good times.
